Mirette is a ten years old detective. She likes adventures and riddles and she dreams of becoming famous within ten years. Her role model is Jean-Patrick Lelièvre (her great uncle), a famous detective who, when he died, left his briefcase "of inventions", full of ancient widgets: crampons, a magnifying glass, a utility knife, a knotted rope and a treasure map.

Jean-Pat is a cat. He likes stretching out on the couch, watching TV and he doesn't understand how fun it is to run and play. In fact, Jean-Pat is the king of laziness. But if you think this is aweakness, think again. Because being so lazy requires organisation and exceptional inventiveness. So Jean-Pat is very, very efficient. During investigations, he always gets rid of Mirette and goes to the most unexpected places.
